We started by going back and forth and sketching things out. It was productive to put pen to paper and try to figure out what we wanted to move and then, how to create that motion. I wanted to do a pendulum, because Kari had said she had never seen one in such a project.

First Prototype

This prototype was so much fun, we got to put our hads on some cable pulls and see how the movenent would work before trying to figure out the pendulum. The theme of this semester, for me, is creation at speed. This process so far had only taken about 3 hours and we already had a beautiful result.

So then, when we scrambled to get this mechenism tied to a double pendulum, to add a little chaos to the system. Given the time frame, we had to work with what we had and never went back on anything we had already placed. In this way, we came to finish the project. An exception to the rule was the excellent handcraft of Antonia, who seeing some clear plastic bags, throught to tie them up as parachutes to our line, instead of a heavier fabric ribion we used previously. An unseen detail is the small and precise knots she preformed across multiple parts of the piece to secure the line.
