The short version
This is a personal portfolio. There are no accounts, no analytics, no ads, and no tracking cookies. Most pages send nothing about you anywhere. A few class demos send what you type, say, or upload to outside services so they can work; they are listed below, and nothing is sent until you press a button in them.
Hosting
The site is hosted on Amazon Web Services (AWS Amplify and CloudFront). Like any web host, AWS receives your IP address and browser details when you load a page and may keep standard server logs. See the AWS privacy notice.
A few pages load code libraries from public CDNs (cdnjs, unpkg), which receive the same basic request information.
Embedded videos
Some posts embed YouTube videos using YouTube's privacy-enhanced mode (youtube-nocookie.com). YouTube does not set cookies until you play a video; once you do, Google's privacy policy applies.
Interactive demos that send data
Text to Image (Shared Minds, homework 2)
When you press Generate, your prompt and any images you upload or snap with your webcam are sent to the ITP/IMA class proxy (itp-ima-replicate-proxy.web.app), which passes them to Replicate to run an image model from Google. Webcam images are only captured when you press "snap". I don't receive or store any of it, and I don't control how long those services keep it. Don't upload images of people who haven't agreed to it.
Book recommendation map (Shared Minds, homework 3)
When you ask for recommendations, a request built from the tags on your map is sent through the same ITP proxy to Replicate, which runs Anthropic's Claude models. Suggested titles are checked against Open Library and Wikidata. Your map is saved only in your own browser (see below).
Speech demos (Shared Minds, homework 1 and 5)
These use your browser's built-in speech recognition, and only after you allow microphone access. Some browsers, including Chrome, send the audio to the browser maker's servers (for Chrome, Google) to turn it into text. Every demo also works with the keyboard instead.
Stored in your browser
Some demos remember your settings or work using your browser's local storage (for example, which visualization you last picked, or your book map). This stays on your device, is never sent to me, and you can clear it at any time through your browser's site data settings.
